Ramadan is over, but its fasting spirit rages on, overflowing in humility into its neighbour Shawwal in the shape of the Six-Day Fast happily immortalised by the Prophetic Sunnah! Defying quantitative logic, divine mathematics equates the Ramadan and Shawwal Fast with continual fasting of a lifetime!
Fasting is elated that God has exalted its worth and dignity, as guest of Ramadan and Shawwal. But with its destined role as sustainer of humanness and civilisation, it is inconceivable that fasting would disappear from sight of the believers in the next ten months until the return of Ramadan!
Thanks to the Prophetic Sunnah, fasting is ever-present in the life of the believers not just in Ramadan and Shawwal, but also in each of the rest of the months, every Monday and every Thursday at least. Cycles of year-long relationship between fasting and the believers providentially turn fasting inti a golden pillar of Islamic civilisation!
A civilisational formula of sustainability Ramadan has proved itself to be, sustaining individual selves, society, and planer earth like no other! Imagine what the world would be like if billions of souls observe Earth's Day each year with fasting Ramadan style, even if only for a day!
